Questions about the diagnosis
Ask what the eye examination shows and whether the cataract explains the difficulty you notice. If another eye condition may also affect vision, ask how it changes the likely benefit of cataract surgery.
Ask whether monitoring is reasonable in your case, what changes should prompt review, and whether any other condition should be treated or assessed first. The timing depends on symptoms, examination findings and personal needs.
Questions about surgery and lens planning
If surgery is discussed, ask what technique is planned and why, what lens categories are appropriate, which visual distance the plan prioritises, and how likely you are to need glasses afterward. Ask about important risks and alternatives in language you understand.
Tell your surgeon about medicines, allergies, previous eye surgery, contact lenses and health conditions. Ask which measurements are needed and whether prior reports remain useful.
Questions about recovery and follow-up
Before the procedure, make sure you know how to use the prescribed drops, when reviews are scheduled, which activities to avoid and whom to contact if a problem occurs. Ask about transport if vision may be blurred after examination or treatment.
Write down the answers or bring a support person. You do not have to make a decision before you understand the proposed plan, benefits, risks and alternatives.
Quick answers
Yes. Ask the clinician how time-sensitive the decision is for your specific eye and take time to understand the options.
Yes. Ask what the selected lens is intended to focus on and what glasses may still be useful for.
Only an ophthalmologist who examines your eyes and reviews your measurements can discuss a suitable plan for you.
